This
book is one of Golden Gryphon's 500 copy signed limited edition
novelettes series. This one is set in Robert Reed's 'Marrow' reality
and is the 35 page tale of the immortal woman 'Mere', so named because
of her stature.
When her starship crashes on Tilia, Mere is mistaken for a goddess
by the natives and becomes an integral part of their society for
several thousand years and their realisation that their sun is soon
to go nova. Mere's life has its ups and downs, including the natives
attempts to kill her.

Fortunately, her body always regenerates so she's not really under
that much threat. Spanning eons in a novelette isn't always a good
idea because so much has to be glossed over and no dialogue until
page 10, so if you're after a close-knit story situation, this isn't
one of them.
Likewise it would have been nice had author Robert Reed had upped
the emotional stakes a little for both Mere and the Tila natives.
Occasionally, I felt he was reining in the story just to keep the
word count down and might have been better to have focused on one
event rather than the entire period of time but that's probably
me the story editor talking.
If you enjoy Reed's 'Marrow' stories then you'll no doubt want
to add this novelette to your collection and should do so before
copies run out.
