Hot on the heels of those steam-punk super spies over at the Wild West West comes a cool new TV series, The Secret Adventures Of Jules Verne. The series' underlying theme is that Verne's famous literary works - such as 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, From The Earth To The Moon etc - were not books at all, but real adventures in which the young Jules had unwittingly fallen into. They were not committed to paper until years later after he had retired from his Indiana Jones cum James Bond existence. The universe of the series is the 19th century, in which all sorts of fantasy adventures take place. The deep seas are made safe from the predatory Nemo, the core of the earth is explored, steam driven super weapons are built and British Gentlemen fly through the air in advanced flying machines (quite so). In the world of the TV series, the wicked League of Darkness stalk Europe and the New World in the company of the undead, demons and hostile extra-terrestrials. Yep, it's steam-punk heaven with a trendy touch of the Buffy-like supernatural thrown into the mix. Lots of walk-on parts for famous characters from real history too. Some equally impressive details for you film fan gonks. The various episodes were shot with new Sony HDW-700 High Definition video cameras - making the first TV series shot specifically with high definition TV in mind. It was made in some really massive self-contained production studio. Said studio has one of the largest green-screen facilities in North America, the complex mounting five sound stages used for the permanent sets for Young J.V. This includes the Paris streets and the luxurious gondola of the Aurora (this was the flying machine used by Phileas Fogg in Around The World in 80 Days). It has yet to air, but it certainly sounds promising. No news of an official site yet, but there's a semi-official one by one of the creators.
