With the second Narnia film, 'Prince Caspian', out shortly, it shouldn't surprise you to discover we have access to the CD before it hits the screens in the UK. Much of the soundtrack by Harry Gregson-Williams is all about mood music in the classical style than something you can remember and hum later. The same can also be said of the four sung tracks, one of which, 'Lucy', wasn't ultimately used in the film.

Of the Narnia books, 'Caspian' is probably one of the more moodiest books and I can understand why it would have to be re-orientated a little to make for a more consistent story. Much of the Pevensie children action comes back later in the story with much of it tracking across Narnia. The tale of Caspian himself is really the focus of this film. The soundtrack gives little away other than mood which will no doubt have more bearing when you've made the connection to the film.

There are hints of themes from 'The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe', especially where Aslan is concerned. One can only hope that future films will at least allow some more up-tempo melodies to be incorporated into the soundtrack.

I should point out that the extras on the CD itself only link to the various websites for a photo gallery and movie trailer. One would have hoped that these could have been incorporated into the CD itself.

There is also a 20 paper booklet with stills from the film plus the lyrics from two of the songs, 'The Call' and 'A Dance 'Round The Memory Tree' in its contents.
