The three volume collection of 'Justice' is selling rather quickly and if you've missed out on the first book, you need to look around to get one as well. The middle section of any series is also potentially the weakest section because it either is building up for the conclusion or nothing much is going on. In this book's case, this isn't happening.
The Justice League Of America has been compromised after all the super-players on Earth have been inflicted with a dream of total devastation where the JLA were powerless to help. For the super-villains, they have seen the light and have actually gone to the aid of people with Lex Luthor reminding everyone that the super-heroes might defeat them but only put things back the way they were. Behind all of this, other plans are afoot. The JLA computer and, more specifically, Batman's datafiles have been compromised and the villains have access to all their secret identities and get them all unaware. There is also an infection being spread that has some of the heroes' darker sides come out and change sides. This really is the JLA's more darkest hour.
Oddly enough, despite the cover showing the main villains involved, very few are revealed in this story. If anything, the focus is really on the JLA themselves with everyone getting a chance in the sun. There are also cameos from the Doom Patrol and the Metal Men which I hope will be used in the third volume rather than stand on the sidelines.
If anything this is more like a detective story. Volume One is the set-up. Volume Two is working out who is behind it all. Nothing you can't really figure out apart from the motivation. Writers Jim Krueger and Alex Ross' overall intent is to show what determines heroism and villainy. Saying that, I also suspect having Alex Ross doing his marvellous water-colours over artist Doug Braithwaite's pencils would have anyone giving this book more than a second glance once they get it out of its clingfilm cover. It's worth the effort to own, folks, if you're into super-heroes. Now, where's Volume Three...
