This is volume two of a nice glossy book that would look mighty fine on your coffee table, ma'am. For those of you living in caves for the last few years, 'Firefly' was a cult series cancelled after one season. There has been a film, 'Serenity', which helped wrap up some of the storyline and now it looks like that's it, folks.
The boxed DVD set of 'Firefly' has done very well for itself and certainly helped sell the movie. This book now wraps up the series.
Content for Volume 2 is, unsurprisingly, very similar to that of Volume 1. Opening with an interview with the Joss Whedon fellow who started it all, it follows along the same lines. There are scripts for the remainder of the episodes punctuated by features on various aspects and different characters from the series.
Included in here is an article entitled 'I Call It Vera: Jayne's Weapons'. Very self-explanatory I guess. There is a teasing article about the unused story ideas, in particular the ideas around the men from Blue Sun who never did get the screen time we all hoped.
The scripts are very detailed with clear and precise directions for staging the episodes. I've never been one for reading the scripts but these come off the page and if you are that way inclined, you could act the whole damn thing out yourself.
Meanwhile, for the more technically minded, there is plenty of detail about the design of the Serenity and some pretty pictures of costume sketches.
Overall, a nice book and if you like such descriptions as, 'Mal gets to the catwalk, angry but cool as cucumber slices' or 'he's nothing but panic in a pair of pants', you will find the scripts an entertaining read. How good to have such witty reminders of the amusing series about Captain Tightpants and his crew.
