This is billed as a rock and roll fairy tale and is a short book by the mother and son team who brought you 'Pay The Piper'. Once again, they have taken a children's tale and converted it into an amusing and salutary story. Things get real ugly when adults get involved in fairy tales.

Moira, a promising young harpist and obviously a very responsible young lady, is about to take part in an annual ceremony. The Dairy Princesses, of which she is one, are to attend a photo shoot on the Trollholm Bridge. The twelve girls will have their images made up in butter and placed on the bridge. It's an advance on the original idea of sacrificing twelve virgins to appease the Norse Gods.

Meanwhile, a cute boy-band of brothers have taken off from their obsessive father and are on the road to a holiday but they are also heading in the direction of the bridge.

Things are going well but are brought to an abrupt end when the princesses and the brothers are summarily stolen from the bridge by, of all things, a large and hungry troll. The captives must live or die by their wits whilst trying to rescue eleven sleeping princesses and avoid going on the menu at the home of the trolls.

This is the second rock and roll fairy tale from the mother and son team, Jane Yolen and Adam Stemple, and it bodes well for future episodes. It's a short sassy tale with a sting and is a pretty quick read at just over 200 pages. The inclusion of specially written song lyrics is intriguing and an audio CD which included the music would be a worthwhile production. The dialogue is snappy and modern. Relationships are quickly but adequately sketched and the whole thing is amusing and a worthwhile read.
