Unlike the other Stargate Companion in this month's reviews, this book has more in common with publisher Titan Books other season books for 'Farscape' and 'Smallville' in that the focus is solely on one season and a bit more detail in the synopsis department and a healthy batch of colour photos. With the episodes only just reaching UK's Channel 5, you can either read along with the series that way or as you buy the DVD volumes. It gives insight into the Wraith, the isolated Atlantis humans and their advance team exploring - only one small picture of the puddle-jumper, people - and the planets and people they're visiting. One thing that I did come away with though is the thought that it wasn't just the Goa'uld who spread humans across the galaxy. The Ancients did the same with the Pegasus Galaxy although from a much earlier time so there is little to compare in terms of mythological or culture extraction. New ball game for you Stargate fans to ponder over. The hint that the Ancients hailed from Earth as well is raising odd question marks around me as it is as although they pre-date current Homo sapien, they also appear to be mammalian as opposed to being reptilian in origin.

The usual fanfare for all things 'Stargate: Atlantis' is in this volume with production notes and information ranging from the cast saying how they got their parts to set and costume design that should you ploughing through this book for hours. It's got me more interested in seeing the rest of this season.
